Today’s stay-at-home mom’s would not dare compare themselves to the mom’s of the past century. The moms from the last century primary took care of the home, and made life more enjoyable for their husbands, and while also making sure they were preforming their daily tasks (cleaning, laundry, shopping, and preparing meals for the family).
Even without children, women were known to stay at home while their husbands went to work and made the household money.
But since then, a feminist revolution has taken place. Women entered the workforce, while still continuing to perform the same family tasks.
Housewives of today
One unnotable change is that following a pregnancy, it has become common for some women to take more time off to care for their child and return to the status of housewife. But, in many of these cases, just it’s just the title “housewive” that’s the only thing that’s common between today and yesterday’s stay-at-home moms.
This homecoming is seen as a short break in a woman’s life. But this break does not really mean a break because most women see this as an opportunity to better manage their lives, personal and professional for two reasons.
First, even though women enjoy and appreciate motherhood, they are also heavily involved in their professional life and manage the two by organizing and taking full responsibility of these two aspects. Therefore, women don’t seem to rest because they need to maintain their lifestyle.
On of the other hand, that status of housewife isn’t frowned upon these days. It is a negative assumption that is slowly fading away.
Let’s take a closer look
The housewife of today learns to manage their new life as a mother, wife and woman. Often these women will try to quickly find a job that would accpect and encourage their role as a mother and professional.
It is this mindset that has lead many new mothers to rediscover their passion, and look first to excerise as a hobby for getting back in shape. Whether related to their job or hobby, these young mothers thrive by creating new interests and profiting off them. For example, jewellery or consulting or audits from home.
Many women give new life to their careers and also their personal lives by opting for the role of entrepreneur.
For example, Cecile, after her second pregnancy decided to take a three year leave from her job to help raise her children and watch them go off to school.
Even though she’s staying at home, this doesn’t mean she’s not busy! As the mother and wife, she has taken on the role of being an independent secretariat at home. She’s outsourcing her skills to companies to help them manage their documents, data entry and more, all while being able to assume full responsibility for her children.
With the development of the internet, working from home has become easier and more housewives or stay-at-home moms are becoming working professionals, and great mothers.
What do you think of the new role of the “stay-at-home” mom?
